Shelter for women and children victims of violence
This project started 2001, and is the oldest continuous project of our organization. The centre for protection of victims of domestic violence was opened as a first and up till now, the only shelter in Macedonia. It covers the whole territory of R of Macedonia, without any national, race, religious or sexual discrimination.
The aims of the project are:
Results: In the period 2001-2005, the Shelter Center sheltered in total 1.460 persons (women and children).
Sexual violence and reproductive health
This program addressing very complex and sensible issues connected with sexual violence. Sexual violence in Macedonian society is still invisible social problem, but it is also very hard violation of human rights. What we are trying to do in Shelter Center is to bring out sexual violence and show its reality and its impact on the life of every human being, but especially on the most vulnerable group, women. The program of sexual violence has research, awareness raising and educational character. This program began in December 2004 when we started with implementation of the research program for the presents of sexual violence among young people on the age on 14-19, in the few high schools in Macedonia. After identification of this problem we started to work on awareness raising, preventing and educational projects toward the problem of sexual violence.
Women's human rights program
This program started from the last year, with purpose to ensure better access of women to Macedonian legal system. This centre is working on national level and is providing free of charge legal assistance to those women who cannot afford to pay for it.
Most of the women are receiving advices about different problems, such as: protection and safety, domestic violence, divorce, economical rights, reproductive rights, children custody, sexual harassment at work and gender discrimination cases.
The aims of this program are:
providing free legal advice to women, informing them on their rights and mechanisms for protection;
Women's economic development program
This program is developed as a tool for improving women's economic status in Macedonian society. We identified the poverty and economic dependence of women as most common problem that starts violence and trafficking in women.
This program is composed of projects that analyze working conditions and women's position at the labor market and projects that offering training for uneducated and unqualified women from Macedonia that face economic dependence and low social status.
Results: In the period of 3 years (2001-2004) Shelter center has provided trainings for 250 women, and supported 30% of them for future employment which ended with great success.
